Nitrox diver
Dive longer. Dive smarter. Dive with Nitrox.
If you want to take your diving to the next level, Nitrox is a must. As an enriched breathing gas containing up to 40% oxygen, Nitrox allows for longer no-decompression times, less nitrogen buildup—and thus more relaxed dives. Our Nitrox Diver course, based on the S.U.B. International standard, teaches you everything you need to know for safe and independent use of Nitrox: from physiology to tank analysis.
AT A GLANCE
Minimum age 14 years (for minors, consent of both legal guardians is required)
Prerequisite Open Water Diver * or equivalent certification
Theory sessions 4 lessons
Practical Gas analysis + recommended practice dive
Gas mixture Nitrox up to max. 40% oxygen (EAN)
Certification International Certification – Nitrox Diver (S.U.B. International / IADS)
WHAT YOU'LL BE ABLE TO DO AFTER THE COURSE
After completing the Nitrox Diver course, you will be able to plan, prepare, and conduct Nitrox dives independently and safely. Specifically, this means:
You are aware of the specific risks associated with nitrox and know how to effectively manage them.
You understand the physiology of oxygen: partial pressure, CNS toxicity, and pulmonary effects.
For each dive, you calculate the maximum operating depth (MOD) and the equivalent air depth (EAD).
You can check the oxygen level in your bottle yourself—using the on-site analyzer.
You label your nitrox tank correctly in accordance with DTG guidelines.
You know what to do in an emergency and are proficient in emergency management for nitrox incidents.
Theory (4 class periods)
In the theory section, you'll learn everything you need to make informed decisions about nitrox:
Oxygen-related issues: partial pressure limits, CNS toxicity, pulmonary effects
Physiological effects of elevated oxygen partial pressure
CNS and MOD Calculations in Practice
Nitrogen Issues: Henry's Law and Equivalent Air Depth (EAD)
Nitrox tables and nitrox dive computers
Equipment Requirements for Nitrox
Legal Framework and Standards
Gas Analysis and Identification According to DTG
Emergency Management for Nitrox Accidents
The theoretical portion concludes with a written exam based on a questionnaire provided by the instructor. The duration and passing score are indicated on the questionnaire.
Practice
In the practical section, you will independently analyze a nitrox tank, determine the oxygen content, calculate the MOD, and label the tank in accordance with regulations.
For divers with little experience, we also recommend a practice dive with Nitrox so you can immediately apply what you’ve learned in a real-world setting and get comfortable with the new gas mixture.
