Professional Training in Frankfurt
From diver to diving instructor – the path to becoming a professional diver.
Are you a Dive Leader looking to take the next step? The professional path at s.u.b. consists of three clearly defined levels that build on one another: from Dive Leader Professional to International Diving Assistant Instructor, and finally to a full-fledged International Diving Instructor. Each level expands your rights and responsibilities—and brings you one step closer to a career as a diving instructor.
All training programs are conducted in accordance with the ISO-certified standards of s.u.b. International and are recognized worldwide.
Important: The diving instructor training program is a professional certification. After certification, there are ongoing costs such as license fees. We will provide you with detailed information about all aspects of the program before the course begins.
AN OVERVIEW OF THE THREE STEPS
Level 1
Dive Leader Professional — Leading simple dives with inexperienced divers
Level 2
International Diving Assistant Instructor — Assisting with all S.U.B. courses, independently conducting snorkeling and introductory diving certifications
Level 3
International Diving Instructor — Independent training up to the Advanced Open Water Diver level, as well as select specialty courses
LEVEL 1: DIVE LEADER PROFESSIONAL
The Dive Leader Professional course is the first step toward professional diving certification. You’ll learn how to safely plan and conduct simple dives with inexperienced divers (at least Junior Diver ***) – and you’ll be able to handle challenging conditions and competently lead appropriately trained dive partners.
Training: 3 modules
The training program consists of three self-contained modules:
Skills & Rescue Module — Demonstration of OWD skills and rescue techniques at a high standard; ascents with clear decompression stops at 9, 6, and 3 meters; theoretical discussion on the pool module procedure
Freediving Module (Snorkeling) — Theory: Equipment, training, and kinesiology; Practice: Demonstration of fin swimming, snorkeling, descending, and equalizing
Training Module — Theory: Exercise evaluations according to s.u.b. regulations in the customer portal; Practice: Deployment as a qualified supervisor in pools and open water
Requirements
Minimum age: 18
S.U.B. Dive Leader or equivalent certification
Valid diving certification in accordance with the guidelines of the s.u.b.
Degrees & Certifications
Upon successful completion, you will receive your Dive Leader Professional certification card. You will be authorized to independently lead simple dives with divers who have completed at least the Junior Diver *** course.
After certification, proof of instructor liability insurance is required. Ongoing license fees are payable to s.u.b.
LEVEL 2: INTERNATIONAL DIVING ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR
The International Diving Assistant Instructor (Assistant Instructor) certification qualifies you to independently conduct snorkeling certification courses and introductory dives. In addition, you are qualified to assist with training for all s.u.b. proficiency levels and specialty courses—from Junior Diver to Dive Leader.

Theoretical and practical training for courses ranging from Open Water Diver to Dive Leader
Compressor Technology: Theory and Practice
Timelines for Dives: Organization and Structure
Leading Dives / Dive Guide
Assistance with all types of courses offered by the dive center
A dive as an assessor for the Open Water Diver course (final evaluation by the instructor)
As part of the training, you must complete at least 20 dives.
Requirements
Minimum age: 18
S.U.B. Dive Leader or equivalent certification
Valid diving certification in accordance with the guidelines of the s.u.b.
Proof of completion of the following specialty courses: Night Diving, Dive Safety & Rescue, CPR/O2, Navigation, Group Leadership
Proof of at least 80 dives in your logbook, including at least 30 open-water dives
Degrees & Certifications
After passing the theory and practical exams, you will be awarded the status of International Diving Assistant Instructor by the s.u.b. office, as evidenced by a certificate, a certification card, and an approval stamp. The training takes place at authorized s.u.b. dive centers in Germany or abroad.
LEVEL 3: INTERNATIONAL DIVING INSTRUCTOR
The International Diving Instructor (Diving Instructor *) is the first full-fledged diving instructor certification offered by s.u.b. You are independently authorized to conduct courses up to the Advanced Open Water Diver level—as well as select specialty courses. Additional teaching privileges can be earned by completing further courses.
Exam Content
Diving Theory: Instructional theory, physics, technology, medicine, diving practice, environment
Diving experience: at least 5 qualifying dives with selected exercises
Teaching demonstration: At least one teaching demonstration for both theory and practical instruction
Requirements
Minimum age: 18
Proof of training as an International Diving Assistant Instructor or equivalent
Valid diving certification in accordance with the guidelines of the s.u.b.
Proof of at least 150 dives in your logbook
Proof of diving instructor liability insurance
Recommended preparatory seminars offered by s.u.b.: Teaching Methods and Techniques for Diving Instruction, Diving Medicine, Diving Techniques and Compressor Technology (including legal issues), Underwater Biology, and Environmental Protection.

Upon passing the exam, you will receive the status of International Diving Instructor from the s.u.b. office, as evidenced by a certificate, a certification card, and an approval stamp. You are authorized to independently conduct the following courses:
All courses up to and including Advanced Open Water Diver
Specialty Courses: Navigation, Group Leadership, Deep Diving, Night Diving, Lake Diving
Children's diving courses
Additional course credits for other specialized courses can be earned by taking separate courses.
