Advanced Open Water Diver in Frankfurt (AOWD)
Advanced training for certified divers — diving to depths of up to 30 meters, navigating safely, leading groups
Are you an Open Water Diver looking to take it to the next level? The Advanced Open Water Diver course is the next logical step. The training consists of three specialty courses—two of which are required, and you choose the third based on your interests.
With the Advanced Open Water Diver certification, you can dive independently with a buddy to depths of up to 30 meters—anywhere in the world. Those who complete the Deep Diving specialty course can even dive to depths of up to 40 meters. The certification is internationally recognized and serves as the foundation for many other specialty courses and the Master Diver certification.
Course Structure —
3 Specialized Courses
The Advanced Open Water Diver course consists of exactly three specialty courses. The Navigation and Group Leadership specialty courses are mandatory. You choose the third course yourself—depending on your diving goals.
Navigation (Required)
Divers should be able to determine their course during a dive and find their way back safely to the starting point. Natural and technical navigation aids are practiced both in theory and in practice.
Course content:
2 theory sessions: natural orientation, compass navigation, what to do if you lose your bearings. 2 practical dives: maintaining a course, finding your way back to the entry point, using a compass without visual contact.
Required dives: 2 open-water dives | Prerequisite: Open Water Diver certification, minimum age 14
Group tour
(Required)
Divers learn how to safely lead a dive group both above and below the water. The focus is on communication, pre- and post-dive briefings, responding to incidents, and the role of the safety team.
Course content:
4 theory sessions: leadership techniques, group dynamics, communication, orientation as a safety measure, safety team. 4 practical sessions: organization, briefing, decision-making under pressure, signal buoy.
Required dives: 4 dives | Prerequisites: CMAS* or equivalent, 15 required dives, Navigation Specialty Course
Elective course (Your choice)
You choose the third course yourself—based on your interests and the diving options available. We recommend deep diving as a useful complement to navigation and group leadership, as it builds your skills for dives deeper than 20 meters.
Course content:
Available options: Deep diving (recommended), dry suit diving, underwater photography, night diving, and more. Contact us—we’ll let you know about available dates.
Required dives: Varies by course | Prerequisite: Open Water Diver
