Children's Diving at the Frankfurt Dive Center — Junior Diver , * and ***

Diving isn't just for adults—it's an adventure that children as young as 8 can start. Through S.U.B. International's Junior Diver program, the Frankfurt Dive Center offers structured, age-appropriate diving instruction for children and teenagers, leading to an internationally recognized certification.

The Junior Diver program consists of three progressive levels. Each level builds on the previous one, guiding children step by step from their first underwater experiences to independent diving skills at depths of up to 15 meters.

An overview of the three stages

Junior Diver *
Ages 8 and up
, max. 3–5 meters

An introduction to scuba diving. Children learn the basics of the equipment, perform their first underwater exercises in the pool, and complete three guided dives in shallow water.

Theory: 5 sessions
Exam dives: 3 dives

Junior Diver **
Ages 10 and up
, max. 5–8 meters

Advanced course with in-depth training in pool and open water. Focus on buoyancy control, underwater signaling, and independent handling of equipment.

Theory: 6 sessions
Exam dives: 4 dives

Junior Diver ***
Ages 12 and up
, max. 10–15 meters

Advanced level. Children dive to greater depths, practice emergency procedures, and finally dive independently in open water as part of a group.

Theory: 6 sessions
Exam dives: 5 dives

Theory

All three levels include theoretical lessons on diving equipment, diving physics, diving medicine, practical diving, and environmental protection. The lessons are tailored to the students' age group and are supplemented by S.U.B. Digital Learning.

Practical Training — Pool

Before every open-water dive, all required exercises must be completed in the pool. These include clearing the mask, buoyancy control exercises, and octopus breathing. The maximum diving depth in the pool is 3–5 meters.

Practical Training — Open Water

The open-water dives take place in lakes in the Frankfurt area. The depth and duration increase with each level. The maximum number of dives per day is limited to ensure the children's safety.

Requirements for participation

  • Minimum age depending on the level: 8 / 10 / 12 years

  • Basic swimming ability (proof required)

  • Fitness for diving

  • Written consent from both parents

  • Register on the S.U.B. Customer Portal before the course begins

After successfully completing the Junior Diver *** course, you can advance to become a full-fledged Open Water Diver. A special upgrade module is available for this purpose, which can be taken starting at age 14. It includes a refresher course on theory, pool exercises, and a certification dive to a depth of 12–18 meters.

The Open Water Diver certification allows you to dive independently with a buddy to a depth of 20 meters anywhere in the world.
